No. 11 UC Irvine Falls to Saint Mary's in 10 Innings

IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine was unable to complete the sweep, falling to Saint Mary's 4-2 in 10 innings Saturday at Cicerone Field at Anteater Ballpark. The loss dropped the Anteaters to 6-5 overall while the Gaels improved to 3-6 on the season.
UCI starter Eric Pettis pitched a career-high eight innings and struck out five while limiting Saint Mary's to one run on seven hits in the no-decision.
Saint Mary's scored an early run in the second on Michael Gastelum's single up the middle to drive in Shawn O'Brien who doubled to left.
Casey Stevenson gave UCI the 2-1 led in the seventh with a run-scoring sacrifice fly.
Anteater reliever Andy Lines started the ninth and gave up a leadoff walk to Riley Heinzer. Matt Summers entered in relief and retired the next two batters before Mikey Reynolds tied the game with a single to left. Gael designated hitter Troy Channing hit a two run home-run in the top of the 10th to give SMC the eventual game-winning runs.
Summers fell to 1-2 with the loss after allowing two runs on three hits in two innings.
Madigan and Leyland paced the Anteaters with two hits apiece.
SMC reliever Dylan Chavez picked up the win (1-0) after holding UCI to one hits in 1.1 innings of work and Alex Schmarzo earned his first save after pitching a perfect 10th.
