DAVIS, Calif. --- Christian Bergman put in a dominant performance on the mound, facing 27 batters in a complete-game shutout to lead UC Irvine to a 13-0 win over UC Davis Saturday at Dobbins Stadium.

Bergman, who gave up a first-inning hit to leadoff hitter Daniel Cepin, saw the centerfielder erased in a stolen base attempt. He then proceeded to retire the next 26 batters, striking out six to improve to 4-2 on the season. After a fly-ball out to right to lead off the Aggie sixth, Bergman did not allow a ball out of the infield, inducing seven groundballs, two infield line-outs and struck out two en route to his second career complete game.

The Anteaters, who improved to 23-13 overall and 7-4 in the Big West provided plenty of offense, recording 15 hits, including a team-best nine doubles in support of Bergman.

UCI jumped on UC Davis' (16-18, 2-6 Big West) Dayne Quist in the third. Quist got himself into a jam, sandwiching an out with a pair of hit batsmen. After Casey Stevenson bounced into a fielder's choice for the second out, Brian Hernandez delivered the clutch two-run double and was followed by Jeff Cusick, who doubled to left to plate Hernandez.

D.J. Crumlich started UCI's rally in the fifth, doubling to left. Sean Madigan followed with a hard single up the middle and Stevenson's double would plate Crumlich. Cusick was issued a one-out intentional walk and Ronnie Shaeffer drove in a pair of runs with a hard single through the left side. Francis Larson sent a 1-2 pitch up the middle for an RBI hit as UCI took a 7-0 lead.

Crumlich again sparked an Anteater run in the sixth. After the shortstop drew a base on balls, Madigan doubled past diving first baseman Eric Johnson to score Crumlich and Stevenson sneaked a 1-0 pitch inside the first-base bag for an RBI double. Cusick's sacrifice fly to score Stevenson would widen the lead to 10-0.

The scoring continued in the seventh as Ryan Fisher drew a 3-2 walk from reliever Scott Heinig and was doubled to third by Jordan Leyland. Tommy Reyes' fielder's choice would score Fisher.

Hernandez, who put together a three-RBI game Friday, tripled in his third run of the game in the UCI eighth and then crossed the plate on a single by Matt Summers to cap the scoring.

Hernandez led UCI with three RBI while hitting 2 for 6. Stevenson was 2 for 4 with two RBI and two run scored while Cusick was 2 for 2 on the day with two RBI. Shaeffer also drove in a pair of runs on one hit. Also registering a multiple-hit game was Madigan, who was 2 for 3 with a run batted in.

Quist fell to 5-3 after giving up 10 runs on 11 hits in five innings.

The series concludes Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
