UC Irvine Game Notes
UC Irvine improved to 39-16 this season with the win. The Anteaters are
8-6 all-time in NCAA Tournament play. UC Irvine, which is making their third straight regional appearance, have now won four consecutive NCAA Regional games after posting a 3-0 record at the 2007 Austin Regional.
Ollie Linton stole two bases in Friday's game, extending his
single-season school record to 39 and his UC Irvine career record to 68.
Linton recorded two hits and two walks to reach base safely in four of his five plate appearances from the leadoff spot.
Eric Pettis recorded his 16th save of the season, one shy of the school record.
UC Irvine pitchers finished with 13 strikeouts, marking their 21st
double-digit strikeout game of the season.
The Anteaters improved to 14-1 when scoring in the first inning this
season.
UC Irvine also improved to 34-0 this season when leading after seven
innings and 36-0 when leading after eight innings.
Irvine is 16-1 when scoring at least eight runs.
Starting pitcher Scott Gorgen allowed a career-high-tying six runs in
five-plus innings. Entering the game, Gorgen had not allowed more than four runs in any of his 14 starts this season.
Ben Orloff made his 150th straight start on Friday, but finished 0-for-5
at the plate while scoring once.
Oral Roberts Game Notes
Oral Roberts saw its 12-game winning streak snapped, as the Golden
Eagles fell to 46-13 on the season with the loss.
Starting pitcher Michael Jarman lasted just one-third of an inning,
marking his shortest outing of the season (he had pitched at least 5.0 innings in each of his 14 previous starts this year).
David Genao's two-run, second-inning home run was his 10th of the season
and his second in the past three games. In the game, Genao tied his career-high with three hits, a number he has reached six times in his career.
Oral Roberts entered the game having scored at least nine runs in each
of its last five games and came up just short of that mark by scoring seven runs on Friday night.
Brian Van Kirk hit his team-leading 18th home run of the season in the
top of the seventh inning. Van Kirk homered for the third consecutive game and seventh time in the past 13 games.
Oral Roberts struck out a season-high 13 times on Friday night. The
Golden Eagles' previous high was 12 on two occasions.
