Anteaters Voted No. 1 by Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball

IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine was voted the top team by Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball this week, the first time ever the Anteaters have been named No. 1 in its Division I history.
UCI swept UC Riverside in Big West action to climb to an 11-1 league mark. The Anteaters, who have not dropped a weekend series this season, went 4-1 last week to improve to 26-10 overall. The team put together its longest win streak of the season at six games and currently has won seven of its last eight games.
The Anteaters, who play five non-conference games this week, are led by freshman Ronnie Shaeffer (Garden Grove/Pacifica HS), who is batting .400. Senior Ben Orloff (Simi Valley/HS) tops the team with 54 hits and is third among the starters with a .362 average. Catcher Francis Larson (Yorba Linda/Esperanza HS), batting .329, is the team's RBI leader with 31 and paces the Anteaters eight doubles and seven homeruns. Ace pitcher Daniel Bibona (Lake Forest/Santa Margarita HS) tops the team with a 6-1 record and a 2.21 ERA while teammate Christian Bergman (Altadena/St. Francis HS) is also 6-1 with a 2.73 earned run average. All-American closer Eric Pettis (West Hills/El Camino Real HS) registered three saves last week to move into a tie for the national lead with Addison Reed of San Diego State.
UCI hosts Oregon Monday and Tuesday (Apr. 20-21) and travel to Utah Thursday through Saturday (Apr. 23-25) for a three-game series.
