IRVINE, Calif. --- Pitcher Scott Gorgen was named a third-team All-American by Baseball America and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

Gorgen, a two-time honoree by Baseball America, has led the Anteaters to its first Division I College World Series appearance, hurling four consecutive complete games, including three shutouts in his last four starts. Gorgen, who sports a 12-2 record, has gone the distance six times this season and claimed wins over No. 5 Texas in regional action and eighth-ranked Wichita State as UCI went 5-0 in the post-season to earn a trip to Omaha, Neb.

In the race for the Big West title, Gorgen out-dueled All-American James Simmons, striking out a career-high 11 batters and scattering just three hits in a complete-game shutout in the series opener. Gorgen then out-dueled Adrian Alaniz, holding Texas to a lone run, pitching nine innings and scattering five hits for his 11th win. Gorgen, then came out of the bullpen in relief in the regional championship game against the Longhorns and tossed a perfect eighth inning.

During super regional play, Gorgen hurled another complete-game shutout against the Shockers, striking out seven and walking three in the first game of the best-of-three series.

Gorgen, who has allowed just one run in the post-season, has pitched 127.2 innings and struck out 106. He will face Arizona State's Mike Leake Saturday at 1:00 p.m. (CT) as UC Irvine takes on the Sun Devils to open the second day of action at the College World Series.
