Bryce Stowell Signs With Cleveland Indians

IRVINE, Calif. --- Right-hander Bryce Stowell (La Habra, CA) has signed a contract with the Cleveland Indians. Stowell, a 22nd-round pick from the 2008 Major League draft, was 8-3 with a 3.26 ERA for the Anteaters. Stowell, the Most Outstanding Player of the Lincoln Regional, struck out 101 in 88.1 innings while allowing 32 earned runs on 82 hits. Stowell tied for 30th in the nation in strikeouts and 33rd in strikeouts per 9.0 innings (10.29) while allowing just 26 walks. Playing with the Bourne Braves of the Cape Cod League this summer, Stowell went 3-1 with a 2.36 ERA while posting the second-highest number of strikeouts in the league with 58. He pitched in nine games, walking just nine in 45.2 innings and allowing 12 earned runs on 32 hits. Stowell earned was named the 16th best prospect in the Cape Cod League by ESPN.com while also receiving Cape Cod League Pitcher of the Week honors for the week of July 5-12. Stowell was named the starting pitcher for the West team in the league All-Star Game.
Stowell will begin his professional career with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers.
