IRVINE, Calif. --- The UC Irvine Baseball program will play 11 of its first 12 games on the road to kick off the 2009 schedule as announced by head coach Mike Gillespie. The Anteaters will compete for the first time in the Minute Maid College Classic as well as participate in a tournament at Baylor University.

The Anteaters open the schedule with four games against Hawai'i (Feb. 20-22) before traveling to Houston, Texas (Feb. 27-Mar. 1). Opponents for the Houston College Classic will be announced at a later date.

UCI faces Loyola Marymount in its home opener Mar. 3 and then takes to the road to Waco, TX, Mar. 6-8, to face first-time opponents Alabama-Birmingham and South Alabama. The Anteaters will face the host Bears in the programs' seventh meeting Mar. 7. UCI ends the road stretch with a contest at USC (Mar. 10).

The Anteaters plays their next seven at UC Irvine, beginning with an exhibition game against Keio University of Japan Mar. 11, prior to hosting Tulane (Mar. 13-15) and Nevada (Mar. 20-22).

A two-game trip to Washington (Mar. 24-25) is followed by UCI's Big West opener against Cal Poly Mar. 27-29. UCI will play five straight on the road as the Anteaters take on LMU (Mar. 31), Cal State Fullerton (Apr. 3-5) and UCLA (Apr. 7).

UCI continues conference play against Long Beach State (Apr. 9-11) at Anteater Ballpark and plays its third five-game week of the season with match-ups against LMU (Apr. 13), San Diego (Apr. 14) and UC Riverside (Apr. 17-19).

The Anteaters host first-year program Oregon (Apr. 20-21) before traveling to Utah for a three-game series Apr. 24-26.

UCI closes out the regular season against Cal State Northridge (May 1-3), Pacific (May 8-10), UC Davis (May 15-17) and UC Santa Barbara (May 22-24) with USC (Apr. 28), San Diego (May 12) and UCLA (May 19) all making mid-week appearances at UCI.

UC Irvine posted a 42-18 record in 2008 and made its third consecutive trip to the NCAA postseason, advancing to the super regionals at LSU.

 

 

The majority of UC Irvine's games will be broadcast on the radio (88.9 FM) or the internet at ucirvinesports.com.
