Men's Basketball:
Ross Land is in his third season as a member of the UC Irvine coaching staff in 2008-09. Land joined the UCI staff in the summer of 2006 after serving the previous two seasons as an assistant coach at Northern Arizona University, his alma mater. He also served as an assistant coach for his stepfather, Prescott "Puck" Smith, at Chico State for one season after playing three years of professional ball in the FIBA SuproLeague in France and Croatia. Land was a standout player for the Lumberjacks from 1996-2000, scoring 1,525 points to rank second all-time at NAU. He became the first Big Sky Conference player to hit 275 three-pointers in his career, finishing with 308. Land is the NCAA Division I all-time leader in career three-point percentage at .464 among players who have made at least 300 threes. He started 117 straight games at NAU while playing on NCAA tournament teams in 1998 and 2000, as well as an NIT participant in 1999. Land was inducted into the NAU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2004 as a member of the 1997-98 team and again individually in 2005. He graduated from NAU in 2001 with a degree in pre-medicine. Land and his wife, Meesha, have two daughters, Jayla and Maciana. |
