IRVINE, Calif. --- Three high school seniors signed national letters of intent with the UC Irvine men's basketball program during the spring period, announced by Anteater head coach Pat Douglass. Joining the Anteaters next season will be Brandon Durham, Brandon Scott and Michael Wilder. Durham, a 6-7 forward, averaged 16 points and 10 rebounds as a senior this past season at Central Kitsap High School in Silverdale, Wash. He was first team All-Narrows - Bridge League the last three years and also was selected to the All-Kitsap and All-West Sound teams. He was named "Mr. Rebound" on his Central Kitsap teams the past three seasons and was team MVP his sophomore and senior years for Coach Scott McMinds. The Cougars were 16-9 overall in 2008-09. Durham also was all-league in football as a senior, the only year he played. Scott, a 6-2 guard, averaged 17.9 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists at Archbishop Mitty High in San Jose this past season. He was named first team All-West Catholic League as well as first team All-Santa Clara County. Scott scored 30 points in a 68-66, upset win over St. Francis. Coach Tim Kennedy's squad finished 18-12 overall and the Monarchs placed second in the Central Coast Section Division II playoffs. Wilder, a 6-2 guard, was named co-MVP of the Moore League this past season after he averaged 23 points, 10.2 rebounds and four assists for Long Beach Wilson High School. He made 70 three-pointers in 29 games as Coach Matt Michelson's Bruins finished 20-9 overall. Wilder was named to the All-CIF Southern Section Division IAA first team. A four-year varsity starter, he was a three-time All-Moore League selection. He twice was named to the Long Beach Press-Telegram Dream Team and was MVP of the Estancia tourney that Wilson won. Wilder also played volleyball at Wilson where he was senior class vice president. "The new players' contributions could be immediate in that the guards add needed depth and both Michael and Brandon Scott are very savvy guards who are multi-faceted players," Douglass said.
"Brandon Durham is a high school football player who adds depth at the post position is not afraid to battle on the boards. He is a very versatile player who can play the high-low post effectively. "These three newcomers join a very promising group of recruits that signed in the fall along with the returning veterans. I look for the `Eaters to be very competitive in the Big West," Douglass added. UCI signed three student-athletes during the fall period: 6-8 forward Pavol Losonsky (Butte College), 6-9 center Peter Simek (Butte College) and 6-0 guard Derick Flowers (Pacific Hills School). |
