Men's Basketball Part of SHOCKTOBERFEST Friday Night
Oct. 16, 2008 IRVINE, Calif. -- The 2008-09 UC Irvine men's basketball team will be introduced to the UCI students for the first time this Friday (Oct. 17) in the Bren Events Center at approximately 9:30 p.m. This year, Midnight Magic will be incorporated into ASUCI's SHOCKTOBERFEST for the first time. The event is open to UCI students with a valid undergraduate ID and a wristband is needed for entry to the Bren Center. SHOCKTOBERFEST begins at 6:00 p.m. with a street fair of campus organization carnival-type booths on Mesa Road. A stage next to the Mesa Parking Structure will feature student organization performances and a set by L.A. favorites Low vs. Diamond. New partner göt2b will present a Guitar Hero and style lounge where you can rock out and get your hair punked out. At 8:00 p.m. the doors to the Bren Center will open. Following performances by the UCI band, cheerleaders and MCIA, local rocker Matt Costa will take the stage for a 40-minute performance. Midnight Magic will follow with introductions of the men's and women's basketball teams as well as battle-of-the-sexes three-point shooting competition and annual dunk contest. Several other fun activities including one student getting a chance to shoot for a $10,000 prize will precede a concert by hip hop artists Three 6 Mafia. AfterShock is the official after-party for SHOCKTOBERFEST. When the concert is over Long Beach DJs Robbed by Robots keep the dance party going out on Mesa Road, while UCI locals Crew Royale light up the Berry Terrace with their own DJ style. Look out for freebies from göt2b, Pepsi, AMP, No Fear Energy Drink and UCI Greeks. Wristbands are needed to be admitted into this event!
