UC Irvine Hosts Eastern Washington, Oregon

OREGON (1-1) Friday, Nov. 21, 2008 - 7:05 p.m. Series Record: Tied 2-2 Radio: KUCI/88.9 FM UC Irvine opens the home portion of its 2008-09 regular-season schedule this week, hosting Eastern Washington Wednesday and Oregon Friday in 7:05 p.m. games at the Bren Events Center. The `Eaters opened the season with a 78-55 loss at USC Saturday. UCI led late in the first half and trailed just 35-29 at halftime before the Trojans broke away in the second half. UCI and Eastern play twice before the month ends as they will meet in Cheney, Wash., Nov. 30. The Eagles will play three games in between the meetings with UCI, hosting UT-Arlington Nov. 22 and Idaho Nov. 24, and traveling to Minnesota Nov. 26. Oregon is 1-1 entering the game at UCI. The Ducks opened at home with a 66-64 win over Northern Colorado last Friday before losing to Oakland (Mich.), 82-79 in overtime, Monday night. Oregon plays in the EA SPORTS Maui Invitational next week, opening against Alabama Monday. UC IRVINE VS. THE PAC-10: The Anteaters are 10-29 all-time versus Pac-10 schools, with five wins each at home and on the road. UCI`s last victory over a Pac-10 team was a 79-63 win at Stanford Nov. 19, 2005. IN HOME OPENERS: UCI is 32-11 in previous home openers, including a 74-61 victory over Loyola Marymount last year at Crawford Court. The `Eaters have won their past four home openers. IN THE BREN CENTER: UC Irvine was 11-1 last season in the Bren Events Center and is 161-120 all-time. The Anteaters have won 79 of their last 102 games (.775) in the Bren dating back to February 2000. ABOUT EWU: Kirk Earlywine is in his second season as head coach at Eastern Washington, which finished 11-19 overall and 6-10 in the Big Sky Conference last season. The Eagles opened the season with a 66-50 loss at Illinois last Friday in a game that was tied 35-35 at halftime. Junior guard Benny Valentine, a Texas Tech transfer, led EWU with 14 points while junior center Brandon Moore had 13 points and seven rebounds. ABOUT OREGON: Ernie Kent is in his 12th season as head coach at Oregon. The Ducks' next win will make Kent the career leader in victories at Oregon as he is currently tied with Howard Hobson with 212 each. Sophomore forward LeKendrick Longmire led the Ducks with 18 points, junior guard Tajuan Porter scored 17 points, freshman center Michael Dunigan had 15 points and 10 rebounds, while junior forward Joevan Catron recorded 13 points and 11 boards. The trip continues with games against Eastern Washington Nov. 30 and Utah State Dec. 2. UCI plays its fourth consecutive game away from home at Pepperdine Dec. 7.
