BASKETBALL TRAVELERS TIP-OFF TOURNEY

TOUGH START FOR `EATERS: UCI enters the tournament with an overall record of 1-7 following a 55-52 loss to Seattle University Tuesday night at the Bren Events Center as UCI fell to 0-3 at home this season. Freshman forward Eric Wise led the Anteaters with 17 points and nine rebounds while senior post Kevin Bland also had nine boards. UCI's lone win of the season was 71-63 at Pepperdine Dec. 7. Wise led the team with 15 points, seven rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocked shots. WISE LEADS `EATERS: Freshman forward Eric Wise leads UCI in scoring at 12.8 points per game. In the last four games, he has averaged 15.0 points and 6.3 rebounds. Senior post Kevin Bland, who is averaging 10.5 points, leads the team in rebounding at 5.3 boards per game. He has two double-doubles this season and has averaged 7.8 rebounds over the past four games. Junior guard Michael Hunter is averaging 10.1 points and leads the team with 19 assists. He and senior guard Brett Lauer have each made 17 threes. BIG WEST RANKINGS: Brett Lauer ranks first in the Big West in three-point field goal percentage (.567) and sophomore guard Patrick Rembert is first in the league in free-throw percentage (.941) UCI ranks second in the Big West in three-point field goal percentage at .363 and third in free-throw percentage (.737). HUNTER MOVES TO 11TH IN CAREER THREES: UCI junior guard Michael Hunter ranks 11th all-time in three-point field goals at UC Irvine. He has hit 106 treys in 73 career games. Hunter is 16 of 31 (.516) from three-point range in the last five games. LAUER LIGHTS UP FROM BEYOND ARC: Senior guard Brett Lauer has hit 17 of 30 threes this season for 56.7 percent.
