CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- UC Irvine shot a 1-under total of 283 Thursday and is in 13th place after the first day at the NCAA East Regional in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Top-ranked Georgia is first at 19-under 265, Augusta State is second at 273 and SMU is third at 276 in the 27-team field at Council Fire Golf Club.

Hudson Swafford of Georgia and Henrik Norlander from Augusta State are tied for the individual lead after shooting 6-under totals of 65 in the opening round on the par-71 course that measures 6,961 yards.

UCI sophomore John Chin is tied for seventh place at 4-under 67. The 2008 Big West Conference Player of the Year had seven birdies, one bogey and one double-bogey in his first round.

Junior Sean Shahi is 33rd after a 1-under 70, senior Kenny Kim is 46th at even-par 71, while junior Tim Cha and freshman Max Greil are tied for 107th place after each posted a 4-over 75 Thursday.

Regional action continues with 18 holes Friday and the final round Saturday. UCI, playing along side Augusta State and SMU, will go off the 10th tee Friday beginning at 9:12 a.m. (PDT).

The top 10 teams following Saturday's last round will advance to the NCAA Championship May 28-31 on The Kampen Course at Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Ind.
