UC Irvine Finishes 6th at Del Walker Intercollegiate

LONG BEACH, Calif. --- UC Irvine made a strong surge Friday to finish sixth in the Del Walker Intercollegiate at Virginia Country Club.
The Anteaters, who were 12th following the first round, shot the second-best team score (345) in the second round that was completed Friday morning after being suspended due to darkness Thursday. UCI shot 351 in the final round Friday afternoon to finish sixth at 1,058 in the 16-team field.
Colorado State won the title at 1,030, host Long Beach State was second at 1,039 and Oregon placed third at 1,042.
Michael Drake of Long Beach State was medalist at 11-under 199.
UCI senior John Chin shot 69 in the second round and 68 over the final 18 to finish 10th at 4-under 206. Junior Max Greil (69-68 Friday) placed 17th at 2-under 208.
A trio of freshmen followed for the Anteaters as Jerry He (70-70) was 31st at 212, Michael Yang (68-74) 57th at 217 and Mickey Chan (71-71) finished 69th at 221, as did junior Shaun O'Meara (69-77).
UCI returns to action Nov. 9-10 in the Saint Mary's Invitational at Poppy Hills in Pebble Beach.
