IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine sophomore John Chin has been named to the 2007-08 Division I PING All-Pacific Region team by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

PING All-Region teams consist of the top 15 individuals in their region in the Individual Ranking System. Additionally, any player ranked in the top 75 according to Golfstat or the Sagarin rankings not included in their region's top 15 are added to the All-Region team.

Chin was named Big West Conference Player of the Year after earning medalist honors in the league tournament April 21-22 at Tijeras Creek Golf Club in Rancho Santa Margarita. He carded a 9-under total of 207 over three rounds as he won his first collegiate tournament.

He placed 14th in the NCAA East Regional at Council Fire Golf Club in Chattanooga, Tenn., May 15-17 with a 54-hole total of 5-under 208.

Chin and his Anteater teammates are competing this week in the NCAA Championship at The Kampen Course in West Lafayette, Ind.
