IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine adds to its talented roster with a Brazilian in Thom Moreira (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil / Colegio Recanto).

Moreira has worked his way up through the ranks of the Brazilian club team beginning with Barra Futsal Club from 2000-04. He played another four years with Clube de Futbol Zico before joining Vasco for two years. All three clubs stationed in Rio de Janeiro. Most recently in 2011, Moreira has been competing with 2SV Soccer Program of Brazil.

Moreira also went to Colegio Recanto, a high school Rio de Janeiro.

Head Coach George Kuntz added, "We feel Thomas Moreira has the ability to be a force to be reckoned with in the Big West Conference. He is a combination of former UCI standouts Spencer Thompson and Irving Garcia. Although he is strong, he still has the speed and creativity we like from our attacking players. He is our first true recruit directly from Brazil. He and Renato should make a great duo."

He will join an Anteater squad coming off its third NCAA tournament appearance as a National Seed stemming from a Big West regular season title and its third Big West tournament championship in the last four years.
