IRVINE, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's soccer team (2-0) defeated Long Island 2-0 Sunday night in non-conference play at Anteater Soccer Stadium.

 

Junior Matt Murphy scored his first goal of the season as freshman Indar Smith took the ball on the right side of the field and knocked it up to junior Rafael Macedo who crossed the ball into the box where he found Murphy at the 12:06 mark. Murphy would connect again, this time he headed in a free kick from junior Shane Westbrook at the 30:42 mark.


 

 

 

Freshman keeper Pat Barton earned his second straight shutout as he had four saves for the `Eaters. Keeper Alex Fatovic had four saves for the Blackbirds.

 

The physical match had a total of 40 fouls in the match as well as a total of 10 cards handed out as LIU played the final 24 minutes down a man after Frank Judice picked up his second card of the match.

 

The Anteaters will be off this week as they return to action Monday, Sept. 10th as they host Cal State Bakersfield in non-conference play at 7:00 p.m. at Anteater Stadium.
