No. 21 Anteaters Tie No. 9 Brown 2-2

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The No. 21 UC Irvine men's soccer team (5-1-1) tied No. 9 Brown 2-2 in double overtime Sunday afternoon at the Adidas San Diego Classic at Torero Stadium. The Anteaters and Bears played a scoreless first half and remained scoreless until the 57th minute when Kevin Davies scored for Brown off an assist from Nick Elenz-Martin. Davies would score again in the 65th minute, this time on a header from Dylan Sheehan. The Bears commited a foul inside the box awarding the 'Eaters a penalty kick at the 69:28 mark. Junior Matt Murphy took the kick and knocked it in to cut the lead to 2-1. The Bears commited another foul inside the box in the 84th minute giving UCI another penalty kick opportunity. Murphy again would take the kick for the 'Eaters and again would convert tying the match at 2-2. The match went on to a pair of overtime periods with neither team able to get another goal, ending the match in a 2-2 draw. Freshman keeper Pat Barton had three saves in the match for the Anteaters. Keeper Paul Grandstrand had zero saves for Brown. Matt Murphy moves into ninth place all-time in both total points and goals at UCI with 18 goals and 46 points in his career.
