Anteaters Shut Out Cal State Northridge; Win 3-0

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – The UC Irvine men’s soccer team (8-4, 1-2) defeated Cal State Northridge 3-0 Saturday afternoon in Big West Conference action at Matador Soccer Field. Senior Irving Garcia (San Luis, Ariz./Yavapai College) took a pass from senior Carlos Aguilar (Palmdale/Taft College) and scored from eight yards out in the 10th minute for 1-0 UCI lead. Junior Spencer Thompson (Ahwatukee, Ariz./Mountain Pointe HS) got a pass from senior Kevin Santora (Los Altos/Bellarmine College Prep) and put it into the right hand side of the net to give the ‘Eaters a 2-0 lead in the 82nd minute. Thompson would then seal the victory with his second goal of the match off an assist from Garcia as he put it into the lower left hand side of the net in the 88th minute for a 3-0 lead. Junior keeper Victor Chinchilla (Palmdale/Taft College) picked up his first career shutout as he had five saves for the ‘Eaters. Michael Abalos had three saves for CSUN. The ‘Eaters return home Wednesday as they host UC Riverside in Big West play at 7:00 p.m. at Anteater Stadium.
