IRVINE, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's soccer team (10-4, 3-2) defeated Cal Poly 2-1 Wednesday night in Big West Conference action at Anteater Stadium.

Jacob Hustedt took a free kick from the right side of the field and put it into the box where Patrick Sigler headed it inside the right post giving Cal Poly a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute. Sigler received a yellow card in the 48th minute after fouling junior Spencer Thompson (Ahwatukee, Ariz./Mountain Pointe HS) inside the box. Senior Irving Garcia (San Luis, Ariz./Yavapai College) took the ensuing penalty kick for the `Eaters and kicked it to the lower left corner where it was stopped by keeper Patrick McLain preserving the 1-0 lead. Senior Carlos Aguilar (Palmdale/Taft College) collected a ball played out by the Mustang defense at the top of the box and sent it back into the box where it deflected off a defender on it's way into the net tying the match at 1-1 in the 59th minute. Aguilar sent a ball from the right side of the field just out of the reach of junior Amani Walker (San Diego/Francis Parker), but not out of the reach of senior Kevin Santora (Los Altos/Bellarmine College Prep) who beat the keeper to the ball and gave UCI a 2-1 lead in the 72nd minute.
