IRVINE, Calif. - Junior Matt Murphy was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team.

Murphy, a political science major, leads UC Irvine in scoring this season with 16 points on seven goals and two assists. Murphy was named a Pre-Season Third-Team All-American by College Soccer News and was the 2006 Big West Midfielder of the Year.

In order to be eligible for the award a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) for his career and must be at least a sophomore academically and have completed at least one full year at their current school.
