IRVINE, Calif. --- UCI men's tennis has been making a lot of noise this summer.
Incoming freshmen Tyler Pham, Jonathan Hammel, and Caryl Hernandez each put up a good showing in the ITA Summer Circuit's final leg on the campus of Cal State Los Angeles. Pham won the singles bracket winning in straight sets in all five matches. Teammate Jonathan Poon reached the semifinals before falling to the eventual runner-up.
In doubles play, Hammel and Hernandez reached the final match finishing in second. Pham and Poon also competed in doubles falling in the semifinal match.
"It is great to see the guys on the team working so hard towards there summer goals. We have won two of the legs of the Summer Circuit which will give the guys confidence and much needed playing time. Tyler Pham is an exciting addition to our success as we move towards the future of UCI Men's Tennis."
In additional news, Head Coach Trevor Kronemann led his World Team Tennis squad, the Orange County Breakers, to a Western Division Championship with a win over Philadelphia this past Saturday. The Breakers begin playoff action September 14th.
"It is great to be still in the hunt for the ever-elusive King Trophy at the end of September. This is one of the pinnacles that I have been trying to conquer for the last 23 seasons, and believe that I finally have a team that could get it done. It has been a jammed packed month, but lots of team comradery, life long friendships, and success along the way."
