Pham Impresses at Day Four of USTA/ITA West Regional Tennis Championships

IRVINE, Calif. --- The USTA/ITA West Regional Tennis Championships being played at UC Irvine were down to its final matches on Monday.

The singles champion was crowned late in a match between two UCLA Bruins. Fifth-seeded Marcos Giron outlasted 11-seed Dennis Mkrtchian for a 6-2, 6-2 win.

After Jacob Jung's run finally ended in the round of 16 on Sunday, UCI had just one competitor remaining in the field. Freshman Tyler Pham stood tall in the semifinals of the consolation draw. He dispatched Justin Spiker, 6-4, 3-6, 10-2, to earn a spot in the final. Rival Big West foe Marco Comuzzo from Cal Poly would ultimately end Pham's run with a 6-3, 6-4 win.

As for the rest of the field, one match remains in the doubles final USC duos in Roberto Quiroz/Max De Vroome and Yannick Hanfmann/Eric Johnson will play in the finals Tuesday, October 23rd at 10:00 a.m.
