'Eaters Fall 5-2 at Hawaii

Shuhei Shibahara scored a doubles win with partner Jonathan Hammel.

HONOLULU, Hi. --- UCI's hot start was stunted by a Hawaii rally in singles as the Warriors took the first Big West match, 5-2, Friday afternoon.

UCI (0-2, 0-1) took the early doubles point thanks to wins from duos Hammel/Shibahara at No. 2 and Hernandez/Pham at No. 3.

Hawaii (1-2, 1-0) came back with wins in five of six singles matches. Reo Asami took UCI's line singles point with a come-from-behind win in a third-set tiebreaker. Asami went to 2-0 and is the only Anteater to record a singles win.

UCI remains in Hawaii for a Saturday match against against Sacramento State at 12:00 p.m.
