Slow Start Dooms 'Eaters in 4-3 Loss

IRVINE, Calif. --- UCI men's tennis fought back from an early deficit, but couldn't overcome the Golden Knights of Central Florida falling, 4-3, Wednesday afternoon at Anteater Tennis Stadium.

In doubles, UCI and UCF split 8-4 results at Nos. 1 and 2 leaving the doubles point all up to the battle at No. 3. The duel went to a tiebreaker point with the Knights narrowly earning the win to take the 1-0 lead.

The Anteaters (2-10, 0-1) fell behind early in singles dropping five of six opening sets. Jonathan Poon and Jonathan Hammel each succumbed to straight sets losses to drop UCI down 3-0.

Tyler Pham brought the 'Eaters back with a straight set win of his own, but UCF would close the door on any comeback with the fourth point at No. 1.

UCI finished out the match closing the final score to 4-3 with three-set tiebreaker wins by Jacob Jung and Shuhei Shibahara.

The Anteaters travel to Las Vegas now for a pair of matches, Friday at 10:00 a.m. against Ball State, and Saturday at 2:00 p.m. against host UNLV.
