UC Irvine Slips in Singles, Falls 5-2 to Utah

IRVINE, Calif. --- UCI men's tennis jumped out to an early lead in doubles, but were done over dropped five of six singles matches to the Utes in a 5-2 defeat Wednesday morning at Anteater Tennis Stadium.

The new pairing of Justin Agbayani and Caryl Hernandez got a big win at No. 3 while Tyler Pham and Jacob Jung completed the doubles win.

Singles started off with a mixed bag as Utah would claim the win at No. 4, but Jung would reclaim the lead with a straight-set win at No. 2. Utah would tie it back up at No. 6 leaving the last three courts to decide the points.

Nos. 1, 3, and 5 all battled in lengthy matches. Ryan Chueng at No. 1 and Tyler Pham and No. 3 each fell in tough first sets, and were unable regroup in set two, both falling in straight sets.

UCI drops to 2-12 on the season with three more matches ahead of them in the week. Gonzaga visits on Thursday for a 1:00 p.m. match. Saturday, UCI doubles up with George Washington at 9:00 a.m. and MTSU at 1:00 p.m.
