UC Irvine Unable to Hold Off No. 49 George Washington

Jacob Jung and Ryan Cheung each scored wins on Saturday despite falling by one.

IRVINE, Calif. --- The Anteaters failed to capitalize on another doubles point as the 49th-ranked Colonials rebounded to drop UCI in the second match of their doubleheader Saturday at Anteater Tennis Stadium, 4-3.

Tyler Pham and Jonathan Poon were reunited in doubles and brought a win while Ryan Cheung and Jonathan Hammel finished off a 9-7 set to give UCI the doubles point.

George Washington reeled the 'Eaters back in and scored three big points.

Jonathan Hammel scored a straight-set win for the 'Eaters, and Pham held off Alexander van Gils for a three set victory.

Jacob Jung battled at No. 3 for the clinching point, but Danil Zelenkov returned from an opening-set loss to take the point and the match for the 49th-ranked Colonials.

UCI plays No. 59 Princeton next on Saturday, March 23rd at 11:00 a.m. at Coto de Caza Country Club.
