ISSAQUAH, Wash. - The UC Irvine men's tennis team (1-0) defeated Seattle University 5-2 Thursday night at the Sammamish Club.

The 'Eaters swept the doubles to take a 1-0 lead. Sophomore Steven Henderson (Poway HS) and junior Khunpol Issara (Bangkok, Thailand) defeated Mark Shkretbtan and Simon Meske 8-2 in the No. 1 match.

In singles, sophomore Fabian Matthews (Corona del Mar HS) defeated Alex Montgomery 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 1 match. Henderson defeated Meske 6-3, 6-1 in No. 3 singles. Junior Stephen Stege beat Adam Strizich 6-4, 6-0 in the No. 4 slot. Issara downed Patrick Boorkman 7-5, 6-2 in No. 5 singles.

The 'Eaters stay in Washington as they face Portland Friday at 4:30 p.m. in a neutral site match on the campus of the University of Washington.
