Men's Tennis:
Anteaters Down Marquette 4-3

IRVINE, Calif. - The No. 48 UC Irvine men's tennis team (11-4, 2-0) beat Marquette 4-3 Sunday afternoon in non-conference play at Anteater Tennis Stadium. UCI took a 1-0 lead after winning two of the three doubles matches. Senior Zac Tsai (Tarzana/Oaks Christian HS) and sophomore Steven Henderson (Poway HS) beat Dusan Medan and Jacob Straus 8-6 in the No. 1 match. Freshman Nick Northcott (Brisbane, Australia) and sophomore Jon Kazarian (Rancho Palos Verdes/Peninsula HS) beat Otavio Perim and Niko Boulieris 8-6 in No. 3 doubles. In singles, sophomore Fabian Matthews (Corona del Mar HS) defeated Dusan Medan 6-3, 6-0 in the No. 1 match to put UCI up 2-0. Sophomore Sam Gould (Hamilton, New Zealand) beat Mark Rutherford 6-0, 6-0 in No. 2 singles giving the Anteaters a 3-0 lead. Perim beat junior Stephen Stege (Los Gatos HS) 6-3, 7-5 in the No. 4 match to cut the lead to 3-1. Boulieris downed senior Shimpei Suzuki 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 in No. 3 singles to make it 3-2 UCI. Junior Khunpol Issara (Bangkok, Thailand) beat Jonathan Schwerin 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 in the No. 6 match to clinch the overall team win for the ‘Eaters. Jacob Straus beat sophomore Ryan Mayer (Yorba Linda/Esperanza HS) 7-6, 3-6, 6-2 in the No. 5 slot to close out the match.
The 'Eaters will return to action Thursday, March 25th as they travel to Boise, Idaho to face Boise State. Results
