ANTEATERS HOST SAN FRANCISCO: The UC Irvine men’s tennis team (2-1) will play their first home match of the season Sunday as they host San Francisco at 12:00 p.m. at Anteater Tennis Stadium.

 

ABOUT THE OPPONENTS: The Dons have had their first three matches postponed this season due to rain. They will open their season Saturday at Loyola Marymount.

 

WEEK IN REVIEW: The ‘Eaters went 2-1 on a season opening trip to Pacific Northwest. UCI beat Seattle 5-2 and Portland 4-3 before losing 6-1 at No. 26 Washington. Sophomore Steven Henderson (Poway HS) and senior Shimpei Suzuki (Woodbridge HS) each went 2-1 in singles to lead the ‘Eaters.

 


 

 

IN THE RANKINGS: The doubles team of sophomore Sam Gould (Hamilton, New Zealand) and Steven Henderson is ranked 10th in the Southwest region.
 
TOP RETURNERS: Sophomore Fabian Matthews (Corona del Mar HS) led the team with a 18-6 record in singles during dual match season in 2009. The doubles team of junior Gautam Vaidyanathan (University HS) and Steven Henderson was 15-7 in doubles to lead the team. Eight of the returning players on the roster earned All-Big West honors in 2009 including first team honors in singles for Henderson and Matthews.

 

HEAD COACH Trevor Kronemann: Head coach Trevor Kronemann is in his fourth season leading the Anteaters. In his first three seasons at UCI, Kronemann has led UCI to a 34-41 record overall and guided former ‘Eater Victor Lamm to the NCAA Singles Tournament in 2008. Kronemann is a 1990 graduate of UC Irvine where he was named an All-American in each of his four seasons.
