IRVINE, Calif. - Senior Shimpei Suzuki (Woodbridge HS) was named Big West Athlete of the Week Tuesday.

Suzuki went 2-1 in singles and 1-2 in doubles on UCI's season opening road trip. His lone loss in singles was in a third set tiebreaker in UCI's 5-2 win over Seattle. Suzuki's win against Geoff Hernandez helped UCI clinch the team victory against Portland.

This is the first career Athlete of the Week honor for Suzuki.
