ANTEATERS HOST UC SANTA BARBARA: The UC Irvine men’s tennis team (3-2) will conclude their match with San Diego State at 4:30 p.m. at the Aztec Tennis Center Tuesday after it was suspended due to rain tied 3-3. The ‘Eaters will then host UC Santa Barbara in their Big West opener Sunday at 11:00 a.m. at Anteater Tennis Stadium in a rematch of the 2009 Big West Tournament championship.

 

ABOUT THE OPPONENTS: The Gauchos are 2-3 entering the week and will face UC Riverside Saturday before meeting the ‘Eaters. Alex Konigsfeldt is UCSB’s No. 1 singles player.

 


WEEK IN REVIEW
: The ‘Eaters lost 7-0 to No. 1 USC and played No. 54 San Diego State to a 3-3 tie before the match had to be suspended due to rain. Senior Zac Tsai (Tarzana/Oaks Christian HS) will conclude his match Tuesday against Andre Feliz in the No. 4 match. The match is currently tied 1-1 in a tiebreaker in the third set.


 

 


 

IN THE RANKINGS: The doubles team of Sam Gould and Steven Henderson is ranked 10th in the Southwest region.

 
 
TOP RETURNERS: Sophomore Fabian Matthews (Corona del Mar HS) led the team with a 18-6 record in singles during dual match season in 2009. Eight of the returning players on the roster earned All-Big West honors in 2009 including first team honors in singles for Henderson and Matthews.

 

HEAD COACH Trevor Kronemann: Head coach Trevor Kronemann is in his fourth season leading the Anteaters. In his first three seasons at UCI, Kronemann has led UCI to a 34-41 record overall and guided former ‘Eater Victor Lamm to the NCAA Singles Tournament in 2008. Kronemann is a 1990 graduate of UC Irvine where he was named an All-American in each of his four seasons.
