Men's Tennis:
Anteaters Host Pair of Doubleheaders

NO. 51 ANTEATERS HOST PAIR OF DOUBLEHEADERS: The No. 51 UC Irvine men’s tennis team (7-4, 1-0) will host a pair of doubleheaders this week. UCI will host No. 68 Penn Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Anteater Tennis Stadium. The ‘Eaters will then head over to the Racquet Club of Irvine to host Big West rival UC Riverside at 6:00 p.m. in conference play. UCI then will host USC Upstate Sunday at 9:00 a.m. followed by No. 70 Marquette at 2:00 p.m. at Anteater Tennis Stadium.
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS: The No. 68 Quakers are 7-0 starting the week as they are on a four-match trip through Southern California with UCI being their final stop.
The Highlanders are 3-4 overall and 0-1 in Big West play. They will face Penn and Gonzaga before facing the ‘Eaters Friday.
The Spartans are 8-4 on the year and are on three-match trip to Southern California and will face San Diego and Loyola Marymount before arriving in Irvine.
The No. 70 Golden Eagles are 11-2 on the year and will face Wisconsin before heading west. Dusan Medan is MU’s No. 1 singles player.
IN THE RANKINGS: UCI has moved into the 51st position in the ITA rankings, their highest ranking of the year. The doubles team of Sam Gould and Steven Henderson is ranked 10th in the Southwest region.
AWARDS ADDING UP: The Anteaters have won Big West Athlete of the Week honors in three of the first four weeks this season. Senior Shimpei Suzuki (Woodbridge HS), Fabian Matthews and Zac Tsai each have picked up the award this season so far.
HEAD COACH Trevor Kronemann: Head coach Trevor Kronemann is in his fourth season leading the Anteaters. In his first three seasons at UCI, Kronemann has led UCI to a 34-41 record overall and guided former ‘Eater Victor Lamm to the NCAA Singles Tournament in 2008. Kronemann is a 1990 graduate of UC Irvine where he was named an All-American in each of his four seasons.
