No. 74 Anteaters Conclude Season With Second Place at Big West Championship

ANTEATERS’ SEASON ENDS: The No. 74 UC Irvine men’s tennis team (12-15, 4-1) concluded the season Sunday losing 4-2 to UC Santa Barbara in the Big West Championship match at Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

 
WEEK IN REVIEW
: The Anteaters lost 4-2 to UC Santa Barbara in the Big West title match. UCI defeated Cal Poly 4-2 in the semifinals Saturday. Freshman Fabian Matthews (Corona del Mar HS) and sophomore Khunpol Issara (Bangkok, Thailand) each went 2-0 at the tournament to lead the Anteaters. Issara was named Big West Player of the Week Tuesday for his performance the previous week.


 

 

 
ANTEATER LEADERS: Fabian Matthews leads the team with a 18-6 record in singles during dual match season. The doubles team of sophomore Gautam Vaidyanathan (University HS) and freshman Steven Henderson (Poway HS) are 15-7 in doubles to lead the team.


HEAD COACH Trevor Kronemann
: Head coach Trevor Kronemann concluded his third season leading the Anteaters. In his three seasons at UCI, Kronemann has led UCI to a 34-41 record overall and guided former ‘Eater Victor Lamm to the NCAA Singles Tournament in 2008. Kronemann is a 1990 graduate of UC Irvine where he was named an All-American in each of his four seasons.
