No. 2 UC Irvine Uses Balanced Attack To Sweep No. 12 UC Santa Barbara
Santa Barbara, Calif. – No. 2 UC Irvine used a balanced offensive attack to sweep No. 12 UC Santa Barbara, 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-23) at Robertson Gym Wednesday.
The Anteaters won their sixth straight match and improve to 15-3 overall and 11-3 in the MPSF. UCSB goes to 5-12 on the year and 3-10.
Junior Kevin Tillie led UCI with 11 kills followed by sophomore middle blocker Scott Kevorken who hit .833 with 10 kills and no errors on 12 swings. Sophomore outside hitter Jeremy Dejno added eight kills and two aces, while senior opposite Carson Clark totaled seven kills and three aces. Senior middle blocker Dan McDonnell recorded six kills, while setter Chris Austin had 39 set assists and set the Anteaters to a .465 (42-9-71) hitting percentage.
UCSB was paced by Matt Marsh with seven kills. Dylan Davis and Miles Evans had five kills.

UCI started the first set 5-0 and extended the lead to 7-2 on a Jeremy Dejno service ace. The Anteaters would take the set 25-13, hitting .478 (14-3-23) and firing four service aces. Kevin Tillie and Scott Kevorken each had five kills and both hit .833 (5-0-6).
The Anteaters started the second set with kills by Clark and Tillie then had a Clark ace, 3-0. UCI opened the gap to 6-1 on another Tillie kill and then 12-5 on a triple block. The Anteaters would win the set on a Gaucho service error, 25-15.
The third set was close until UCI used a Gaucho service error and a block by Dejno and Dan McDonnell for the 19-17 edge. That was all the Anteaters needed as they won the set 25-23.
UCI will battle No. 1 UCLA Saturday (Mar. 10) at 7:00 p.m. in the John Wooden Center.
