IRVINE, Calif. -- Senior Thomas Hodges was instrumental in UCI's 3-0 week, which included an upset of No. 1 Ohio State and was named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Week.
Hodges recorded 11 kills, an ace, three digs and three blocks in the win against the Buckeyes that snapped OSU's 42-match winning streak. The night before, he had 10 kills on 23 swings without an error (.435), leading the Anteaters to a 3-0 win against Ball State in Columbus, OH. He also added two aces, five digs and two blocks versus the Cardinals.
The senior was the lone player in double-digit kills against Saint Francis with a team-high 12.
For the week, he averaged 3.67 kills, 4.50 points, 1.22 digs, 0.44 aces and 0.78 blocks per set.
This is the first career MPSF weekly award for Hodges.
No. 5 UC Irvine has the week off and will return to action on Mar. 25 at Pepperdine following final examinations.
