IRVINE, Calif. – The No. 7 UC Irvine men’s volleyball team (5-4, 1-3) beat Princeton 3-0 (20-26, 30-16, 30-22) in non-conference play Tuesday night at Crawford Court.

 

Sophomore Austin D’Amore (Laguna Hills HS) tied his career-high with 10 kills and season-high six block assists. A total of nine Anteaters recorded kills in the match with D’Amore and senior Cole Reinholm (Thousand Oaks HS) leading the way with 10 each.  

 

Sophomore Carson Clark (Santa Barbara HS) led the ‘Eaters with six kills in the first set, including three straight to close out the set. With the score tied 8-8 in set No. 1 the ‘Eaters went on a 9-3 to go up 17-11. UCI hit .601 in the second set with 16 kills on 23 attempts.

 


 

 

The second set was also the best set percentage-wise for Princeton as they hit .360 with 13 kills on 25 attempts. UCI led the Tigers 18-11 in the second set and pulled away further with an 8-3 run to go up 26-14 and then had two kills by Reinholm to seal the victory in set No. 2.

 

UCI held a comfortable lead for most of the third set as they took a 23-19 lead. UCI then outscored Princeton 7-3 down the stretch as Reinholm again had two kills at the end of the match to put the match away.

 

The ‘Eaters will now travel to No. 9 Hawaii for a pair of matches Friday and Saturday (Jan. 29 & 30). Both matches will begin at 9:00 p.m. PST at the Stan Sheriff Center.
