Kevin Carroll Posts Career-high 19 kills As No. 11 UC Irvine Beats No. 15 Lewis, 3-1

Irvine, Calif. – Kevin Carroll put away a career-high 19 kills to lead 11th-ranked UC Irvine to a non-conference victory over No. 15 Lewis at Crawford Court Monday night.
Carroll led UCI (11-10) with a career-high 19 kills followed by Jordan DuFault and Kevin Wynne recording 11 kills each. Wynne hit .647 and had five block assists and two aces. Carson Clark added 10 kills and Cole Reinhom pitched-in eight kills in two sets. Setter Ian Wynne tallied 57 set assists and matched his career-best with 13 digs, while Austin D’Amore had five total blocks. Libero Kenny Webster matched Wynne with 13 digs and libero Will Thomas had three digs in the win.
Lewis’ Nathan Klaas led all players with 22 kills, hitting .436. Matt Gallik recorded 12 kills and Ian Karbiener had 10 kills. Setter Mike Iandolo totaled 43 set assists and a team-high 10 digs. The Flyers go to 11-5 overall.
Lewis opened up 22-18 cushion in the first set on three consecutive points which included a kill by Aaron Flick and two UCI attack errors. The Flyers never trailed again as Matt Gallik put away a kill to give Lewis a 30-27 victory. Nathan Klaas hit .778 recording eight kills to lead the Flyers.
After the score was tied for the 21st time at 22-22 in the second set, UCI inched away on a kill by Jordan DuFault and Flyer attack error, 24-22. The Anteaters continued to lead 26-25 before UCI scored the final four points of the set behind the serving of Carson Clark who had just checked into the match. Kevin Carroll had six kills to lead the Anteater attack.
The Anteaters jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead in the third set and never looked back winning 30-19. Carson Clark had six kills as the Anteaters hit .571 (18-2-28).
UCI used a 4-0 spurt in the fourth set to go ahead 15-11 then pulled away with a 5-2 run giving the Anteaters the 20-13 advantage. UCI would go on to win the set 30-25.
UCI will continue its non-conference action hosting No. 9 Penn State Wednesday (Mar. 10) at 7:00 p.m. in the Bren Center.
