UC Irvine Travels To Pacific And Stanford

UCI ON THE ROAD FOR TWO: 11th-ranked UC Irvine (6-7, 2-6) will travel to Pacific Friday (Feb. 12) for a 7:00 p.m. match at the Spanos Center then head to No. 5 Stanford Saturday (Feb. 13) for a 7:00 match at Burnham Pavilion.

 

On Friday, fans can listen to the Pacific broadcast or follow Gametracker.

 

Saturday's match with the Cardinal will have a premium webcast through gostanford.com, and there will be an internet only radio broadcast on KZSU-2: http://kzsulive.stanford.edu/

 

VERSUS THE OPPONENTS: UCI leads Pacific (18-10), but trails Stanford (12-24) in the series records. The Anteaters have won the last five meetings with the Tigers and the last two against the Cardinal.  Pacific is 5-7 overall and 0-7 in the MPSF. The Tigers are coming off two victories over Quincy. Stanford is 5-3 overall and 4-3 in league play.

MPSF STATISTICS: UCI ranks second in kills (15.62), assists (14.92) and hitting percentage (.337), behind Stanford in each category. The Anteaters are third in blocks (2.97) and aces (1.43) among MPSF schools. The Anteaters are also ranked third in digs with a 10.50 average.

 

OFF THE FINGERTIPS OF SPITTLE: Junior Anthony Spittle has taken over the setting duties and ranks 10th in the MPSF with an 11.21 assist average. Last week, Spittle averaged 13.50 set assists, 1.50 digs and 0.75 blocks.

 

CLARK LEADS: Sophomore opposite Carson Clark leads the team and is second in the MPSF in kills (5.20) and points (5.89). He leads the team and ranks eighth in the MPSF in aces with a 0.36 average. Clark has recorded 20 or more kills in seven matches.

 

AT THE NET: The Anteaters have out-blocked opponents in six of the last seven matches. Last week, Kevin Wynne and Austin D'Amore combined for 23 total blocks. Senior Bryan Simmons leads the team and is fourth the MPSF with a 1.44 blocking average.

 

ANTEATERS SPLIT A PAIR WITH BYU: UCI split a pair of matches with No. 3 BYU last week, losing 3-2 the first night and sweeping the Cougars, 3-0 the second night.

 

In the first meeting with BYU, Carson Clark tied his career-high with 29 kills but it wasn't enough as the Anteaters dropped their third consecutive five-set match.

 

The second night Jordan DuFault had 15 kills and Clark recorded 14 kills to lead the Anteaters to victory.

 

The first match UCI had a season-high 26 service errors and the second night they had a season-low six service errors.

 

UCI REMAINS NO. 11: UC Irvine stayed at 11th in the latest AVCA Coaches Poll. The Anteaters have been ranked in the nation's top 15 for 81 consecutive weeks.
