Former UC Irvine All-American Colin Mello is in his first season as volunteer assistant coach with the Anteaters' program. He is a member of the USA National "B" team and competed for Team USA at the 2010 World Unviersity Games. Mello played professionally for the Brisbane Barracudas in the Australian National Water Polo League in 2009, leading the team in scoring. He played for Alcorcon (Madrid) in the Spanish Division de Honor in 2009-10. Mello earned first-team All-American honors at UCI in 2007 and second-team recognition in 2006, when he led the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation in scoring with 87 goals for a 3.00 average per game. A two-time All-MPSF player, he scored 162 goals in his UCI career and graduated with a B.A. in psychology in 2008. Mello served as head coach of the U-16 team for Coast Water Polo that finished fifth at the Junior Olympics in the summer of 2008. He was assistant coach at Trabuco Hills High School in the fall of 2008. He graduated from Reedley High School in 2003 as valedictorian and athlete of the year.
