'Eaters Rally to Defeat UC San Diego 7-6

IRVINE, Calif. --- Trent Baxter scored the game-winning goal with 2:28 remaining in regulation as No. 7 UC Irvine won its seventh straight game with a 7-6, non-conference victory over UC San Diego at Anteater Pool Friday night.
UCI trailed 4-1 at halftime before exploding for four goals in the third period. Greg Enloe opened the third quarter with a goal at the 6:30 mark to close the margin to 4-2 and Brandon Johnson followed with a penalty shot with 5:52 left to pull the Anteaters within 4-3.
Bryce Madsen gave 11th-ranked UC San Diego a 5-3 lead on an extra-man goal with 4:56 left and then UCI pulled even on power-play goals by Enloe (3:43) and Doug Lindsey (21 seconds).
The Tritons (9-11) reclaimed the lead at 6-5 on an extra-man goal by Sean Cruz with 6:10 left in the fourth quarter. UCI's Tom Kruip scored with 5:09 remaining to knot the score at 6-6, setting up the game-winner by Baxter.
Enloe and Brandon Johnson led the `Eaters with two goals each while six different UCSD players scored one each.
UCI, 13-5 overall, hosts No. 4 UCLA Saturday night at 7:00 in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation game.
