‘Eaters Finish Fourth at Big West Championships


KAHUKU, Hawai'i --- UC Irvine finished fourth at the Big West Championships Saturday morning and senior Isaiah Thompson earned all-conference honors for the second straight year.

The Anteaters totaled 98 points as Cal Poly won the title with 18, followed by UC Santa Barbara with 53 and Cal State Fullerton with 83.

Thompson placed sixth with a time of 25:20.8 over 8,000 meters at the Kahuku Golf Course in Kahuku, Hawai'i, to earn all-league distinction for the second consecutive season. He has been UCI's top runner in all five meets this season.

Hector Garcia finished 16th in the race with a time of 25:42.8, Nolan Del Valle was 24th in 26:02.9, Izzak Mireles 27th in 26:13.4, Branden Randall 28th in 26:16.7, Eric Lawver 35th in 26:32.3 and Ashton Garcia was 42nd in 26:52.7.

Cal Poly's Clayton Hutchins was the individual champion with a time of 24:36.1.

UCI competes at the NCAA West Regional in Sacramento Nov. 11.
