UC Irvine Signs Two
Irvine, Calif. – Vanessa Aguilar and Jennifer Tsurumoto have signed National Letters of Intent with the UC Irvine women's basketball program.
5-8, So., G, Sacramento, CA/Los Angeles Valley College
Aguilar will come to UCI from Los Angeles Valley College where she was an all-conference choice as well as California Community College Athletic Association honorable mention selection. She helped the Monarchs to an 18-12 record in 2012 and was named to the postseason Southern Division all-conference team. Aguilar, who was a three-time Western State Conference Player of the Week this year, averaged 18.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 3.7 assists overall and averaged 20.3 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists in conference play. She recorded a season-high 37 points against Santa Monica. The guard attended Arizona Western Community College in Yuma, AZ before competing at Los Angeles Valley and was a 2010 graduate of Grant High School.
5-6, So., G, Sebastopol, CA/Santa Rosa College
Tsurumoto will transfer to the Anteater squad from Santa Rosa Junior College where she led the team in scoring (13.9) and assists (4.0). She was tabbed Big 8 Conference Most Valuable Player in 2012 as well as a two-time All-State honoree including garnering first team accolades this year. Tsurumoto was a member of the 2011 state championship team, earning All-State Tournament team designation after posting 28 points in the win over Mt Sac in the semifinals. She was prepped at Analy High School.
