Princeton Topples UC Irvine, 78-50

Irvine, Calif. - The Princeton women's basketball team toppled UC Irvine, 78-50, in a non-conference game at the Bren Center Friday afternoon.
The Tigers, who improved to 4-1 overall, used a strong inside-outside attack, knocking down seven three-pointers.
A trio of Tigers recorded double-figure points led by Niveen Rasheed with a game-high 17 points and career-high 10 rebounds. Addie Micir followed with 15 points and Devona Allgood totaled 14 points. Princeton shot 43.7 percent (31-71) from the field and 41.2 percent (7-17) from three-point range for the game. The Tigers also out-rebounded the Anteaters 49-34.
UCI (1-4) was led by Rebecca Maessen's nine points, while Jade Smith-Williams recorded eight points and had three assists. Lauren Spinazze pitched-in seven points and Jazmyne White and Raquel Theus had a team-best six rebounds. The Anteaters shot just 32.7 percent (17-52) from the field and were 1-5 from long distance.
Princeton led 12-10 with 14:16 to go in the first half before the Tigers scored seven straight to extend the lead to 19-10 with just under 13 minutes to go on a Lauren Edwards three-pointer. Princeton would hit four more three-pointers, three by Addie Micir, to take a 40-26 advantage into halftime.
UCI would start the second half, out-scoring Princeton 7-4 to trail by nine (44-35) with 18:26 to go, but the Tigers would go on a 10-4 spurt to open the lead back to 52-37 at 15:16. The Anteaters would get no closer than 13 the rest of the way.
UCI will entertain South Florida Monday at 5:00 p.m. at the Bren Events Center.
