Kelly Cochran Named Big West Best Sixth Woman
March 10, 2009
Irvine, Calif. - Senior forward Kelly Cochran has been named the Big West's Best Sixth Woman by a vote of her peers.
Dealing with a nagging injury throughout the course of the season, Cochran saw limited playing time but was a catalyst on both the offense and defense when she came off the bench. She played in 22 of UC Irvine's 29 contests, starting twice this season. Cochran is third on the team with 4.6 rebounds and fourth in scoring with 6.2 points per game. Over the last three games, Cochran has averaged 12.3 points and 9.3 rebounds, while shooting .545 (12-22) from the floor and swatting five blocks
The Best Sixth Woman honor is one of three specialty awards voted on by the league's players. UC Riverside's Kemie Nkele was tabbed the Best Defensive Player and Cal State Fullerton's Daviyonne Weathersby was named Best Hustle.
UC Irvine will play Cal State Fullerton in the first round of the Big West Conference Tournament Wednesday (Mar. 11) at approximately 2:30 p.m. at the Anaheim Convention Center.
