UC Irvine Announces Women's Basketball Schedule

Irvine, Calif. -- UC Irvine has officially announced the 2009-10 women's basketball schedule which features seven teams that competed in the post-season last year.
The Anteater schedule features 11 opponents that won 18 or more games last year, including eight teams that won 20 or more contests.
"I think we have a nice balance of home games this year," second year head coach Molly Goodenbour said. "This year's team can be challenged as well as be very competitive with this schedule". "With this good non-conference schedule, we will be very prepared when we open Big West Conference action."
UC Irvine opens the season hosting San Diego State who lost in the second round of the 2009 NCAA Tournament and features Jené Morris who was named to the preseason watch list for the John R. Wooden Award. Following road games at Colorado, Loyola Marymount and Cal State Bakersfield, the Anteaters entertain Princeton on Nov. 27 followed by South Florida, the 2009 Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) champion, on Nov. 30. NCAA participant and the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) champion Fresno State Bulldogs visit the Bren Center on Dec. 3 before Seattle, who is under the new leadership of Joan Bonvincini, comes to Irvine on Dec. 5 for a game at Crawford Court.
Following a week off for finals and a road game at Oregon State, UC Irvine will close out the 2009 home schedule against Eastern Washington on Dec. 19. The Anteaters end the year with road games at Pepperdine and Gonzaga.
The Anteaters kick off the Big West Conference season on the road at UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly before returning home to entertain Cal State Northridge on Jan. 7. Other home conference games include UC Davis on Jan. 14 and Pacific on Jan. 16. On Jan. 21, the Anteaters host Long Beach State, which is a double-header with the men's team and a Black & Blue Rivalry Series game. The Anteaters host cross-town rival Cal State Fullerton Jan. 30 before a non-conference tilt with Cal Sate Bakersfield, also a double-header with the men's team. The final three home games are Feb. 18 versus UC Riverside, Mar. 3 against defending Big West champion UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly on Mar. 6. The Big West Conference Tournament will be held at the Anaheim Convention Center Mar. 10-13.
Women's basketball season ticket prices have been cut in half this year, featuring 15 games for just $50. Children, 13 and under, should consider joining the Jr. Anteater Club. All Jr. Anteaters receive a membership t-shirt and free admission to any regular season home UCI event for just $25.
A busy promotional calendar is highlighted by UCI's annual "Think Pink" fundraiser for breast cancer on Feb. 18 and "National Girls & Women in Sports Day" free clinic on Jan. 30.
