UC Irvine's Molly Goodenbour Names Women's Basketball Staff

Irvine, Calif. -- UC Irvine head women's basketball coach Molly Goodenbour has announced the hiring of assistant coaches George Libbon, Brianna Finch and Audi Spencer as well as Julia Smith as the new Director of Basketball Operations.

"There is a familiarity with the staff so it has been an easy transition and we are looking forward to getting out into the Southern California basketball community and building relationships."

 


 

 

Libbon comes to UCI with over 25 years of coaching experience.  Most recently, he coached overseas and was an assistant with Goodenbour at Chico State for two years (2006-08). Libbon was the athletic director and head men's basketball coach at Chemeketa Community College in Salem, Oregon from 1991-2004. He served as an assistant men's coach at San Jose State from 1982-84 and had stints at the University of Portland (1984-85) and the University of Oregon (1985-1990).

 

Finch coached and served as the recruiting coordinator at UC San Diego during the 2007-08 season where the Tritons were 25-10 overall. She was the head ladies basketball coach at Griffith College in Dublin, Ireland from 2006-07. Before traveling abroad, Finch assisted at Menlo College in 2005-06 and spent one year as the head coach at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, Oregon. She took the job at Mt. Hood after spending two seasons as an assistant coach at Santa Rosa Junior College alongside Goodenbour.

 

Spencer is a 2008 graduate of Chico State where she played two years under Goodenbour. She was named a Daktronics Division II West Region First Team honoree as a senior as well as a first team All-CCAA selection. In 2008, Spencer led the Wildcats in scoring at 14.5 points per game and field goal percentage (.521). She ended her career as Chico State's career leader in three-pointers made (196), three-point percentage (.398), wins (102), and games played (123).

 

Smith joins the UCI staff after serving as an assistant coach at San Bernardino Valley College from 2006-08, helping the Wolverines to the regional finals in 2007 and a conference championship in 2008. In 2005-06, Smith was an assistant coach at Riverside Community College.

The Anteaters open the 2008-09 season at New Mexico State on November 14th.
