UCI Women's Basketball Signs Three
Nov. 25, 2009
Irvine, Calif. – Jasmine Bernard, Kelly Meggs and Natalie Butler have signed national letters of intent with the UC Irvine women's basketball program, Anteater head coach Molly Goodenbour announced.
“These three players have competed at a high level and they are used to being in competitive situations and know how to win,” Goodenbour said. They are not afraid to assert themselves on the court.”
Jasmine Bernard 6-0 Forward Rancho Cucamonga, Calif./Etiwanda HS
“Jasmine brings a low block presence. She is strong and will compliment the post players we have in our program now.”
Kelly Meggs 5-7 Guard Seattle, Wash./Bellevue HS Played at Terre Haute North HS (IN) last season, but will be attending Bellevue for her senior season…Indiana AP All-State honorable mention selection as a junior…averaged 13.5 points and 3.0 steals per game a year ago…father Lindsay Meggs is the head baseball coach at University of Washington.
“Kelly is a good combo guard who can play the one or the two. She is a coaches’ kid who is smart and relentless.”
Natalie Butler 5-10 Guard/Forward Fresno, Calif./Clovis West HS Missed the 2008-2009 due to an ACL tear and will miss the 2009-10 season after re-injuring the knee in October…as a sophomore, she was a contributor on a Clovis West team that went 28-3 and won a CIF Central Section title before losing in the second round of the CIF State Playoffs to Chatsworth.
“Natalie has a good three-point shot and is an aggressive player. Her size and ability to score at the wing position will be a nice addition to our team.”
