Long Beach, Calif.-The UC Irvine women's varsity, novice, and lightweight eights beat UC San Diego and Long Beach State on Saturday March 8th. The varsity women got off the starting line behind both UCSD and Long Beach. At the 500 meter mark all three crews were even with the anteaters slowly taking the lead. Long Beach never gave up fighting with Irvine through the finish line with Irvine coming out 2 seconds ahead of the second place team. The novice women's eight led the entire race, winning by 9 seconds over Long Beach. The lightweight eight continued the day's tradition of winning by beating UCSD by 5 seconds. Irvine's novice four battled down the course leading the majority of the race but were passed in the last 500 meters by UCSD coming in 2nd by 1 second. The varsity four race was a battle with Irvine coming in 3rd out of 4 boats. Six of the varsity women doubled into 3 pairs and placed first, second and third out of 4 boats.
