UC Irvine Battles UC San Diego and Long Beach State

March 10, 2007

San Diego, Calif.-- UC Irvine traveled to Mission Bay to race UCSD and Long Beach State on the Tecolote course on March 10th. The varsity women came out strong with all crews charging, three boats overlapped as they came into the turn. The turn proved a challenge for Irvine, racing in the third lane, and the Anteaters ended the race open water down off UCSD and Long Beach State. The novice women battled, literally, all the way down the course. Irvine and Long Beach repeatedly clashed oars throughout with Irvine surging forward in between contacts, ultimately finishing just seconds behind UCSD and Long Beach State. The varsity women's eight doubled into the varsity four finishing second between two UCSD boats. The pair, also a double from the varsity eight, placed second between two Long Beach Sate pairs after a rough start with blades clashing. The novice four raced strong to a second place finish beating both UCSD crews as Long Beach captured the win.
